Cichlasoma Macracanthus... It is in the book called, "Cichlids from Central America." The male in the book is a bluewish grey color and really looks good. I never hear anybody talk about this cichlid. Anybody no why no pictures on this cichlid and no post?

I actually almost bought a pair of those a while ago, my lfs still has them. They are part of the Astatheros genus, previously Amphilophus. They get around 10 inch.
They are quite rare I believe, that's why you hardly ever see people posting pics.

They are from El Salvador, almost like and intermedeate between a Midas and Trimac. Astatheros formerly Amphilophus Macracanthus. Here's a pic, not my fish.

How aggressive are they? What cichlid would you compare them to as far as aggression? In the book, I saw a nice pretty bluewish color, do they get pretty colors? Also, do the male get the hump on their heads?

I saw them once along time ago at a LFS, Doug the guy that worked there for years was like a walking encyclopieda of fish. From what I remember the males will get a pinkish color on the chest similar to Trimac but they retain the barring like a midas and do not get large nauchal humps. He explained them as like a common ancester of the Trimac and Midas before they evolved into different spices which was a pretty good discription of the fish I saw, weather or not that is acually the case I don't know. It could be just that it was isolated before they seperated and evolved to it's present form. That's all I know for whatever it's worth. I never saw another one.

if its between a midas and a trimac i think it would be safe to say that it would be a glass bangin monster.

chances are they'd be close to the others in the Astatheros group like robertsoni, nourisatti etc. I kept robertsoni for quite a while. They can be very aggressive with conspecifics but generally are no more than semi aggressive with other fish. Considering the conspecific aggression I would go with no less than a 125 gallon and I am sure you could try mixing some other semi aggressive cichlids with them such as nicaraguense, firemouths etc.
