The past two years I have noticed big fish that get brought into my LFS are sold within the week. Big oscars, pacu, and even common plecos are not sticking around for long. People used to call the aquarium begging to have these taken off their hands so them suddenly being so easy to get rid of is interesting to me.

Less common big fish like pikes or unusual catfish have always been easy to sell, but an oscar? They used to sit in the store for months if the store accepted them at all.

Has something changed that I was not aware of? Are big fish suddenly really popular? The LFS owners tell me big fish are just more popular now, but that is shocking to me if true.

Is this just my area or has it become like this where you live as well?

I can’t say I’ve noticed one way or the other, but then again I also don’t go to my lfs frequently enough to track what goes in and out consistently.
My guess would be that people in the hobby are overall less patient and don’t want to wait to grow something out (the fun part imo). Much easier to just get it near full grown.

I have noticed this too. A 24 inch rtc disappeared from the the store within a day. The owner told me he's shipping adult Oscars since there is a high demand for them. Other larger fish like flower horn pacu rtcs(very rare here) and Oscars are sold within a few days. But it's sad since the maximum sized aquariums here are 6 feet which isn't enough for pacus iridescent rtcs etc

Your country has a ban on large aquariums? For what reason?
