Regardless of whether it is right or wrong have you ever released an aquarium fish into the wild or do you know anyone who has?

When I was a kid I caught a big dogfish, kept it for a couple of months then released it back into the wild. I wouldn`t do it today but didn`t know any better back then. I have never released any other fish into the wild, and certainly never will.

Like 32 years ago, my father was mad that this goldfish dominated all the food so he released it into retention pond down the street.

Others definitely did the same at another pond nearby as I used to see them when I went fishing there as a kid.

Thinking back, we had no clue how to take care if fish. We had like 5-6 goldfish in a 10g. One time my dad got annoyed by air pump. He unplugged it and forgot to plug it back and fish were dead the next day.

I remember putting bluegills I caught in the tank with the goldfish.

We finally stopped after this red oranda that was left later died. I remember it being had some huge anchor worm and lost all it's color in it's cool cap.

Never have and never will but I did enjoy fishing for little tilapia and convict cichlids at a local park. They have a ton of plecos too. The park later added some bass that took care of most of those exotics as their numbers went down drastically.

Weather loaches are illegal in Michigan because some dingass released them in a creek and they became established there. I also remember fishing a lake near our home in suburban Detroit that had feral goldfish in it. I don`t put releasing a native that has been held captive in the same league but it`s still not smart.

I released a channelcat on a cousin's farm once. (Legal as it's private property, anda native fish, but still not a good idea.)

I think most of us have been there. I think about some of the things I did when I was young and inexperienced and cringe.
