Gotten the urge to just sell off all your livestock and start over? ive never done this.. But those of you who have did you regret it? The last 2-3 years we've kept most of the same fish, and i just want a change. part of it is we're moving, have a kid now.. and otherwise had a few big changes in our lives. My husband has wanted salt for a long time, and with 8 freshwater tanks.. adding another tank let alone SW is just not going to happen. We're at a point where we love our fish but at the same time want to just start over. moving into our first house seems like no better time to pull the trigger and do this. Ive taken breaks when my fish have passed away in the past, due to age or a tank disaster. But never just sold off my stock.

It just feels like getting rid of the family dog for me.

I know once we move and settle in the tanks will undoubtably be filled again, so its not a getting out of the hobby or really takeing a break. the house has a giant basement in particular to hold large tanks...

I have done this before, it is kinda sad for a little while but i get over it, especially if it is a brand new awesome fish i can watch. Finding good homes for them will make you feel a lot better about your decision than just trading them in at some pet shop. So
Just take some time to find them a good place to go to, and maybe you will decide to keep a couple of your favorites along the way. Best of luck with the decision

Try buying a bird to throw off the "confusing" feeling of wanting or not wanting to change the tanks..........

Of course. Completely normal.meven giving them away to expedite things...

i hold on to them all.... i know it is more fun and exciting to try new... but i just want them all to have a good life.. and if i push them down the road chances are probably slim that they will live to their capacity... so when i make the decision to purchase a new pet.. it is for as long as possible..Have I wished i had made other decisions.. sure i have.. everything always looks greener on the other side.. but to keep what you have in good shape and prospering should keep you busy enough not to notice what looks better.. lol.

Thanks for the input everyone.. gives me something to think about further.

I think you are justified in rehoming if the long term plans are sketchy for your fish. It is important we provide our fish a good home... even if that home is in someone else's tank. It does bum me out sometimes, but I make sure the fish will be taken care of.
