In a Smuckers jar.
that the jars pattern changes as they get older. My uncle has big 7year old+ jars that dont have a single red line on their gill plates or the red lines after each scale on the body. Instead it has red spots. And looking at my 5yr old guy hes the same were as before he has some lines on his gills and body. Just wanted to share what I have noticed.

Thanks for the info. Not many 7yr old jardini's swimming around, how big is he, and what size tank is he in? I'm about to get an 8' x 3' x 3' tank and would love to know that jardini's could grow to their full potential in one tank.
p.s: would like to see some pics of your monsters.

I've noticed my Jardini changing colors based on the lighting of the tank. I've had him almost two years now, and there has been times where I would keep the lights on the tank off for weeks at a time. Only viewing him through natural light. This caused his scales to get the dark tinge they have now, and his red seems to have become a little brighter. Then, when I leave the light on for extended weeks, he'll change the the lighter color you see in Jardinis often. His scales get a more golden color to them and the red is less noticeable.

Could just be my experiences though.

just like most fish the change in background and substrate can chage darkness or color. i found that the substrait has a more change than background. i liked the way my jar looked when it was lighter but liked the more reds in fins with the darker. so i went white sand with black background it looks just the way i like now
