I've had my FH for almost 10 months now. I originally had him in a bare tank but since it was in my dining room I wanted to make it a little nicer looking. So, I added gravel, got better lights and put a background on. I'm hoping this will also help him grow a bit better, its already bringing his color out more. When I got him the breeder said he was about 2 monts old. Should he be a lot bigger than this at almost a year old? I do frequent water changes, water parameters are always perfect and he eats a ton. Thanks for any input :)

As long as your FH is eating, and swimming normally, Likely no worries. My FH is approx. Five months old, is only 4"
Long, and very healthy.

What is your water temp ? What do you feed ? poop colour ?

Water temp is 84
I feed Hikari Cichlid Gold and just recently started giving him Hikari Bio Pure freeze dried blood worms for a treat.
His poop is normal orange/brown color.

Might mix in some Omega One products. My FH really goes after the Omega One Sinking Cichlid Pellets. Another thought, I'm a big fan of a scaped tank w/ tankmates for a FH. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. My FH has been in a scaped tank with tankmates ranging from hardy large tetras to other aggressive cichlids, since it was 3/4 inch long. I believe a more natural environment brings out the best results.
Might add a school of Buenos Aires Tetras, driftwood and some rocks.

As for his small size it is likely a result of lots of inbreeding, unfortunately most flowerhorn are bred to flowerhorn instead of other cichlids, this is why I encourage outbreeding for healthier genetics.

Hikari cichlid gold is a good feed. If possible you can also feed hikari blood parrot feed and okiko platinum and you can also add some coral sticks. Try to interact with your daily 15 mins.
Try to give them variety of foods and if not you can try diy food.

This is my baby KML taken from a local breeder only 2.5 months old
