Having an abyssal aquarium is your dream?

I don't think they actually did. Really it wouldn't be that hard to do. You would just need a vacuum chamber. Though O2 exchange might be a problem and if you wanted a viewing window it would prob have to be made from a very expensive polycarbonate piece...which would prob cost more than building a 15k gal tank

From what I read, I think they're saying because they are keeping inverts, they don't have the same issues with pressure as fish would.

The issue with fish would be the pressure associated with the swimbladder. You could do it.

You'd need a thick enough aquarium that would allow for the water pressure to be maintained.

Then you'd need a means of keeping the transferred fish at a constant pressure long enough to acclimate them to the aquarium.

Chiller, since the water down there is about 35-40 degrees

Low light levels.

Appropriate food.

They keep a whale shark in an aquarium. Wouldn't surprise me if they're keeping Oarfish soon as well.

IF i could replicate the deep sea i'd want one of the angler fish, and/or vampire fish... but i'm sure the up-keep and maintenance would cost an absolute arm and a leg... just thinking about changing 100% water every few hours and keeping the temps that low would be a challenge in itself for any one whos at home 24/7 let alone a person that works and needs to travel abroad for work...
