So I noticed a strange smell out of the kitchen cabinets this monday. Took out all the stuff, and there is a big MOLD spot and everything is moist on the back wall. So I go into the adjascent room, the dining room, which we never ever use unless we have guests, and see that the other side of the wall where the cabinet is is also all spotty and the hardwood floor in the area is all CURVED UP!!!

Could not figure out what it was, but called my insurance lady (we have home protection insurance). She sent in her plummers and they foud this out. My 2 year old refrigerator has an ice maker. The tube that gives water into the ice maker froze, and the backpressure pulled out the hose from the copper piping so every time the computer asked for more water to the ice maker, it sprayed on the back wall instead, so it kept asking and spraying. This probably lasted a good 2 days. We noticed that the ice maker was not producing ice, so we turned it off, but we were not aware of what had happened.

Now here is my situation: The mold people will have to tear 3 walls on the first floor down to 2x4s, take out a whole SIDE of my kitchen all the cabinets, pull the granite countertop and the floor in the dining room (SOLID hardwood, not parquet floor) :( :(

Thank god for insurance so this wont cost me much ($1,000 deductable) but the house will be in a state of war for the next few weeks.

So if you see me say weird stuff and get angry at you for not reason, you know why now :) :) :)

Hey...like they say... it could have been worse.

Hang in there! I'm sure something good will come out of this situation, in one way or another.

Cheers,

They have to rip apart all those walls ?

I wish you luck. I went through similar headache when I was remodeling my house. I did all the remodeling with my father-in-law. Cabinets, counter-tops, tiles, walls etc.

Jay, so did we. me and my dad bought the cabinets, built the frame, put them all together. The only thing that a pro did was the countertop
