Home Depot salt. Is this one ok to use? Because there is more than one brand of water softener sold in large bags. I just want to see if anyone has used this one or knows its ok.

I used to borrow salt from the 50lb bags I ordered for my fish system at Petsfart, but I no longer work there......soooo.......

Feel free to put your 2 cents in.

The bag says "Up to 99.(wrinkle, can't read) pure salt" You need to find out what the other point something ingredient is. Salt for aquarium should contain sodium and chloride - that's it. Make especially sure it doesn't contain yellow prussiate of soda (YPS) which reacts with water to make acid.

The impurities are naturally occurring solubles. Processed salt starts out as mined rock salt which has a measurable amount of insoluble impurities. These insolubles are removed when the salt is dissolved and passed through settling beds. It is then pumped out to drying fields before the salt is harvested. The soluble impurities remain with the salt through the rest of the processing.
