Hello Everyone,
I have an urgent question. I had left the house today for about 45 min. When I returned, one of my Tiger oscars was on the floor. He had broken the lid off of the tank and was down behind the stand.
I took a wet towel and picked him up and got him back in the tank but, he is banged up pretty bad. He has a quarter sized chunk missing on his forehead, big patches of scales missing on both sides and the fins down his back are scraped also.
What should I do for him or is there anything to do other than just wait and see if he makes it?

Thanks,

Mike

IF you have some stress coat I would add some to the tank. I've never had this happen but I've had fish with open sores that I treated with melafix that seemed to work well.

do what rallyman said and wait and see....oscars are pretty tough

the chunk missing from its head doesn't sound good

Melafix is a good product to put into the water. It is by AQUARIUM PHARMACUTICALS.

I hope he makes it!

I wonder what made him jump out? What size tank is he in?

my albino did the same, when i was pickin her up from my LFS and it was on a second shelf aquariums so it was a pretty big drop. and it did take a chunk out of its forehead. melafix did wonders for mine and a bit of aquarium salt. hope everything turns out good. oscars are tough!!

Thanks for all the responses. I did put some stresscoat in the tank with him but, I do not have any Melafix. I will get some tonight. I do not know why he jumped out like that. As far as tank size, and I realize this is not really enough, is a 40 gallon. He has been in that for about 3 months. I will not even tell you what he was in before that.

Thanks

Mike

aww poor fish in a 40 gal. hope you got plans for him.

do more water changes maybe 2 a week instead of once this will keep the water tip top but to be honest in a 40 gallon tank hes probably slowly being poisoned by his own ammonia anyway your fish is guaranteed to be unhealthy and will have a smaller chance of surviving compared to an oscar in adequate surroundings
