I just purchased a 2" I think male green terror, he has a very pronounced head hump. I didn't think they get them this early, does it mean he will be large? I picked him from a tank raised selection of about 20 other terrors for $3.00. He is being kept for now in a 40 g. high with a small 3" I believe to be female black belt cichlid with no problems thus far. I have one aquaclear 70 and lots of rockwork for hiding. I've seen the other threads on growth rates, but I was wondering would a big head hump now, mean a large terror later? or does it not matter? thanx-salty

Well if it is already big then he is gunna look like a freak when he gets older! Hahaha I love the humps on the head. I think your tank will be fine for now but in the future you are going to have to pick one or the other. And I would add some filtration. I know it may sound dumb to you because you already have a 70 gallon filter on a 40 gallon tank but the extra overkill and water movement will help you out tremendously. I would try and maybe add like a biowheel of equal power to the AC. IMO that is the best HOB filter combo out there. AC for power and Biowheel for biological filtration. You will be very satisfied if you do this. Oh yea and I would to see a picture of your fish and tank!

souds like u picked the right 1 i sure would have gone for a 2" gt with a hump never seen 1 that small with a hump i think u got a show quality male on your hands take good care of him and in year u will have somthing that only a few fish keepers have a gt super stud lol.

He has a hump because he is with other GTs in the same tank and he is the dominant one. He may loses his hump in a few month but who knows.

My male had a hump when he with three other GTs.

Even though he is much bigger right now, he lost his hump because he is solo now.

Thanx for the replies, and the help. I've always liked terrors. I've just only seen them larger, I like to start with smaller cichlids and watch them grow. The terror is actually in hiding now, I think the blackbelt might be too much for him to handle, but its also only been a few days.

Well I found the terror today pretty scared, and a little beaten up, so I removed the blackbelt. He now has the 40 g. along with a pair of 3" blue gourami and a small 2" tinfoil barb I picked up to use as dithers. I left them alone for a few hours and came back to see the gterror out in the open and actually getting chased by one of the gourami. I'm sure it won't last, but its nice to see the terror out in the open.

I dont think it is a problem, i just picked up 4 convicts and my male has a huge hump and he is 2" like your GT, i think they look great with the humps, gives em characteristics and some balls lmao!!
