how fast do these guys heal open wounds? is it like piranhas?
my armatus' injured nose doesnt show any signs of healing but its not progressing. i have the temp at 88, salt and melafix.

i started treating with melafix Monday. when should i start expecting results? the wound is still open. :(

thanks fellas!

Did it finally stop rubbing it against the glass? What did you do to get it to stop?

yes it did. lights always on, bare tank, not even backgrounds. i put a lot of tankmates... 3 BIG TINFOILS and 5 smaller dats.
i know i shouldnt have put the dats in but im just desperate to make him stop. im keeping a close eye, even recording it while im asleep and at the office. no aggression, no rubbing. dats are only there until the nose is healed. i may do some changes today, take the dats out, leave the tinfoils and see if it starts rubbing again.

when will i see results of recovery DB? in your experience, how fast do they heal wounds?

Should see results in a half week. I'd guess week and a half 2 weeks tops for majority of healing process.

Make sure there's plenty of O2 in there with the temp that high....

ok. thank you sir!!!

My little guy came in with snout damage about three weeks ago and would have probably healed by now but it has just started to calm down when I get near its tank a few days ago.My tats on the other hand have all damaged their snouts from glass bumping and they take quite a while to heal.

wow! so snout problems are common huh?
i guess as long as it's eating and nothing unusual is happening, it should be fine. i was expecting a quicker healing process since its a characin.

Your water quality, and the fish's stress factor will have a huge effect on the healing process.....

Snout problems are very common on all skittish fish. This tendency to freak out is what makes them difficult to keep. Unfortunately many Characins are like this. (at least the sought after ones)

It is very common with Armatus. I would try to stay away from any Meds and just use Salt, High Temp and lots of Air.

I wouldnt worry at all:grinno:

Dithers could make or break you... no activity could keep the prob going... active dithers could spook him and back fire. He will tell you which is working for him:D

so far so good with the dithers. nobody scares the heck out of this guy.
it even tried to attack my 15" black arows one time. im thinking its because it wasnt used to people yet that's why it gets spooked before.

but yeah, you're right. i took that risk with dithers, so far, it's giving me good results.

i already have melfafix in the tank. it seems it doesnt bother him. breathing normal and eating habits and the attitude got worse towards the dithers. its more calm and secured now, you can tell with it's actions.. cruising the tank... striking on way bigger fishes. he's not even darting when i approach unlike before. he would swim away in a calmly manner when i approach then comes out of hiding only after a few seconds and stares me down. like a bully!

i will do 25% WC today and not add melafix anymore. ill see what happens.
