i came home from school today expecting a few babies to be eaten, as they are getting pretty big. what i found instead, was just as bad. my female jewel cichlid got wasted by her mate. no babies are missing (that i can tell), but she is very dead.

now comes the part why this is in the SA section.

i am thinking about selling the father when i sell the babies, unless i see something brilliant in one of the young (albino, leusistic, etc). i will then have an empty tank.

they have a festae in a tank at my lfs (it is with some red devils, and is getting dominated). it is about 3 inches long, and looks to be female (body shape, bars, etc). i know they grow slow, and only get about 8 inches. i am thinking about buying it.:WHOA:

me and my brother and my dad are likely going to be building a 360 gallon tank in a few months. if so, she will go in there. if not, i will sell my 35 and buy a used 55 or 75 for her. if 'she' ends up being a he, which is very unlikely, he will go into the 360 or be sold. i have covered all angles (i hope lol)

thanks

nice, get the female. they do grow slow, but get larger then 8 inches, with males supposedly reaching 20 inches and females at about 12

Those are absolute max sizes too which is rare to see in an aquarium.

Sorry to hear about your female. I'd say get the Festae...they're beautiful fish.

sorry for the loss of your female jewel.. they do things like this.. so i always separate them after babies..

wow, i was expecting some real flaming:ROFL:

thanks guys. i just have to wait for the babies to get some size on them now. should be about a month. i am really, really excited:grinno:

Well if you get the right people to answer your Q then you wont get flamed in which you did :) I would say festae all the way in your serious about the upgrade. If you know that you want to get a new tank but cant within a couple months then I advise against but good luck and make a good decision one that you can stand by.
