I know carnivore, massivore and cichlid gold is a popular dry food for rays,

but just recently a friend heard that it's actually not that good for black rays..... health wise and makes their colour turn brown.... I have no proof, but wondered if any one agrees with this? Or any one noticed this effect?

You have seen my rays did they look brown to you

Color wise I highly doubt it would matter....

It is possible. Many dried pellet foods contain colorants such as Astaxathin or Cantaxathin, used to enhance red colors, and will make any other colored fish take on a red tone. A black ray could acquire a brownish-reddish undertone if overfed with this type of food.

A P14 fed on ONLY pellets from birth

doesnt look brown to me :D

looks pretty magenta to me, but that is probably mostly an artifact of a cheap camera and the color temperature of your tank lights
:)
