Has anyone ever done a heated outdoor pond?I started to dig for a 1600Gal pond and i am half way done and was wondering what type of heater it would take. And how many watts.I live in south Louisiana so it is warm more than 3/4 of the year.I have the biological filter with uv light and pump for the water fall.Just need to put the shovel to work.I will post pics this after noon. Thanks for any help............

Any help would be Great !!!!

Have you considered an insulator? I have condsidered an outdoor heated pond and was going to insulated under the liner with expanding foam, and build a "lid" of blue extruded foam. But it never got past the idea phase.

Good Luck! :headbang2

There are other threads already here. A little search will let you see some options. A convential heater method will be tough for 1600 gals. Look at some of the solar DIY.

I'd suggest atleast 3ft for depth but that now leaves you with a 6'x3' or smaller pond...good for a few Gfish.

What's your lowest temps there?

You can do a DIY solar water heater with a 100ft coil of black 3/4" pvc (or hard pvc and some black paint.) and a circulation pump.

Have you seen any of the other heating ideas on here?

I have been searching around a little the solar heater seams to be the most popular. And we have a short winter hear 1 and a 1/2 months 70 to 90 deg. 3/4's of the year.thanks for the idea though...
