can i keep a 30 gallon tank ourside during the winter? would my heaters keep the temp at a constant 80? like i duno how they work should i put two 100watts in there or a 100 and a 50? The tank is for cichlids

well what is winter to you? is it like 50 0r 60F, or like 2 feet of snow and -10F

new york... i dont think its below -10 but its 2 feet of snow...

Don't know the specifics, but you will need an immense amount of heating power and very large power bills.

Why would you want to keep it outside? If its a matter of space just put the thing in a closet.
Yeah why not keep it inside a 30g does'nt take up much space.:screwy:

Insulate the heck out of it with styro panels, keep it covered, and you might stand a chance with enough heat and enough $$$ for electricity.

Move it indoors or strip it down, theres also the risk of it cracking due to the constant temp changes inside and outside of the tank.

It was also cost a lot to heat

What constant temperature changes? The outside will always be colder, but the water should maintain a steady temp if enough wattage is on his heater. Barring him piling snow against the tank suddenly, there should not be a temperature change drastic enough to crack the glass.

While it won't break, it definitely is not a good idea- especially in New York. Electricity bills would be insane.
