Hey everyone,

So I was just feeding my fish and I noticed that the water felt cold to me so I checked the temperature and it read 71 degrees. I have had the temperature set to around 83-84 since Saturday because I am currently treating my fish for ich (which is gone now). It is, or was i guess, an Elite 200w heater that i recently bought for my 90 gallon. I have had the same type of heater but a 150w for the past 2 years with no problems. My real question is are my fish ( Oscar, JD, Pleco) going to be ok until tomorrow or the next day at this temperature? They are mocing around the tank pretty slow as I type this but their colors are fine. My second questions is, if I can get my money back on this heater since it was relatively new, what kind of heater should I get? I have an xp3 so I was thinking about getting one of the Rena heaters that attache to the intake tube, but I don't know if they are any good.

Thanks.

I had a heater do the same thing to me. What I did overnight was left the light on to at least keep the water warm a bit since my tank is in my basement. It kept it at 73 or so. Fish al survived til I got a new heater the next day.
I did also get a rena smart heater or whatever the name is. My tank is 30 gallons only not quite as big as yours and I jus use the heater stand alone. But I like it. It does what it states it will do. Only thing is the dial on the heater doesn't seem acurate. I set the dial at 80 degrees but my temp is only around 76. Not sure why that is, but I figure u can jus turn it up more and find out how warm it gets and adjust accordingly which I don't mind. It does a great job keeping the water an a constant temp. And it also goes off if the water goes below the waterline that's marked on the side. Nice feaure, tho its plastic so it won't shatter anyways.
Great heater, I love mine.

hope you realize ich has different life stages. it might have a outbreak again tho

for the temp- those cichlids and I"m assuming a common pleco will be just fine in a 71 degree water theres no worry about it - people can keep those species in their ponds outdoors with ease. Some people keep oscars/jds devils etc with their koi outdoors many even throw in plecos for cleanup crew which I never recommend. So I'm really sure your fish will be fine at 71 degree-
