Judging from the poor pic it can be bite marks from the other ray. Are they still eating? If yes and your water params are ok then don't worry. I would also blame a pleco but you didn't mention you had one. If you have a heater without a cover I would suggest you get one. Also, test kits go stale after long periods so if your not comfortable with the readings purchase yourself a new test kit.
