hey everyone, i had a couple questions, so this morning i woke up and my heater in my tank had went out, put my tank up to 95+ degrees killing everything.. including my 13" ornate bichir.. so now its time to re stock. Would the tank getting that hot have killed off my bacteria in the filters, or should i be ok?

Sorry to hear. Hearing these stories is the reason I have heat controllers on my tanks.

I am thinking the bb could probably withstand a higher temp, so I would think it'd be ok. Check your ammonia and nitrite level now and then check it again in 24hours to see if there's a change.

that sucks... 37 deg is pretty warm i would think theres a good chance the bb has taken a good whack. as others said do a few tests and see if ammonia and nitrites rise. good luck, one plus side is you have a fresh slate of a tank, thats always fun.

you just had the heater pretty much reset ur tank... Sucks, have fun starting over. I do think it will need to re cycle keep an eye on water

A heat controller is a device with a temp set point, you plug your heaters into, and will shut the heaters off, if the temp in the tank gets too high.
The most common problem with heaters is getting stuck in the "on" position.
I never buy 1 heater to sized to fit a tank, but 2 or more under sized ones, so if one does get stuck, the others will hopefully turn off, and the stuck one will be too undersized to cook the tank.

Essentially, multiple devices would have to fail for your tank to get fried. These controllers can be surprisingly inexpensive. Here's what I use:

hi there, is it necessary to have heater in your country? if it is really not necessary, i suggest not to on it.

i would also recommend you to re-cycle the tank and cultivate new bacteria to play safe.
