Okay folks major heater issues.

As per my latest you tube update

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sulmVbrjZqc

My original jager heater 300W was continually showing as being on but no heat was being generated. I tried various different fixes including calibrating it but nothing seemed to work. So I went out today and bought a 300W heater but again it does not seem to be generating any heat. Well it is set at 26 and is heating the tank to 20 - 21 degrees C. I have now increased the heater to a marked 32 degrees on the thermo stat to see if I can get anything out of it.

What heaters are you guys using in your larger tanks? Is there anything more reliable or higher spec out there? My original heater seemed to work fine for around about 2 months so a bit annoyed and confused.

Like the look of the koi pond heaters he sells for $500 but I would be a dead man if that arrived at by door and missus found out haha.

How do the cheaper drop in heaters he is doing compared to the fluval E series?

Any one have experience of them in a bigger tank?

I'd recommend Fluval E series'.

I'm running five 300w Fluval E series heaters on three different tanks and haven't had any issues.
Not only does it have a colour display, blue - under set tempreture, red - over set tempreture (this saved a tank full of fish just 3 weeks ago) and green for at the correct tempreture set, it has a 'low flow' function that will tell you if the heat isnt distributing correctly around the tank.

I've replaced all my heaters over time with these, and for £23.95 from ebay inc delivery, i can't think of a reason not to purchase one.

My main heaters of choice are Marineland Visi-Therm, Eheim, I did purchase an Aquaen back in November only because the store sold them for $5.00 the packaging was messed up but they were new. All my heaters are 300w. I used the Aquaen recently and was very pleased with it.

Ahh, i didn't know Coatbridge price matched, that's good to know. They have a great tropical/cichlid fish section but i always did think their equipment was on the expensive side.

I run two 300w on 100g tanks. I had one on a 100g when it was first set up and i was waiting on the other arriving and had the same problem, temp. set around 25 degrees and would stay around the 23-24 degree mark.

I always prefer to have two heaters running incase one stops working.

Yeah they are expensive so far I have price matched over £50 from them but then again I have spent almost £2000 in store so I think they owe me it.

I have made a quick review of the Fluval E300 for those of you who are thinking about it.

My next question is what power heads are you guys running in your bigger tanks? It looks like I have alot of dead spots in there I want to sort out.

Currently only running an FX5. I had a 1200 maxijet before in my 50 gallon tank but I didn't find it hugely powerful.

Let me know what you guys recommend.
