just a quick question, i currently have a 6 ft 125 gallon and bought two 300w heaters off of ebay. Should i use them both, with one on each end? or is there anyway i can get by with just using 1??? house is always above 72 degrees.

Yes you can just run one. However it would be best to run two so the tank gets heated more evenly.

I use a single 300w on my 125g in the house as well, you should be fine. If you have both already, I would use both. If you ever need to raise the temp much over 82 degrees (treating ich etc...) you will need to add the other anyway.

i will probably start with a single one, just to save some power, and to limit the amount of wires and objects in the aquarium. if i have a problem can obviously throw the other one in.
thanks.

I think you should consider using both since you already have them, here is why. If the heater fails, you will have the other as a backup and the temp will not fall below where you consider safe levels.

Just something to consider.

Although a single 300w is enough for a 125 given your ambient temperature, it's usually better to use both - if one stops working without you knowing, the other one can still keep the water warm.

yah i know, but the tank is in my room, and if one every did fail it would never go long without me noticing. we'll see.

alright i suppose i'll use both haha.

also you will not save enegy by using only 1 heater. it takes X amount of energy to heat X amount of water.

for example it could take 300w 20 minutes to raise the temp 2f, but only 10 minutes with 600w.
