I am planning on putting a teacup in my 75. I use Stealth heaters in all my tanks but obviously this won't work with a ray. Anyone had any experience with Fluval heaters with Fluval heater guards? Are those any better than a Stealth with a PVC with vents?

I will have a Fluval 405 and 2 Whisper 60s. I think this would be enough, but should I add another 405 or something? I was also thinking about taking off one of the Whispers to fit a Bio Pro 30 (powerhead and one large biowheel). I think this would be better than a Whisper.

you can never have enought filtration any heater is good as long as it has a heater gaurd on it

you just buy the heater gaurd to fit a heater you already have most heater gaurds will fit all types of heater

the hydor heaters are good that sit outside the tank inline with the filter

Agreed. Hydor ETH Heaters are extremely efficient.

I thought about an inline heater, but the 05s have kink free tubing. I would have to switch the tubing or add a Fluval that has regular tubing wouldn't I?

I knwo you can't have too much filtration, but is what I have enough? Or out of what I have what would be best?

its always best to have 2 x exturnal filters with rays so when you clean 1 out the other is still running at full stregnt

i just think fluwho are rubbish and you will be better of with 2

You are going to need a larger tank very soon, I would save your money & just buy a bigger tank, a 75 is going to fluxuate like the weather in Seattle..... You are going to need to use at least two canister filters... I really don't have any faith in canister filters, but in your case it might be your best chance... The most important thing to understand is your ray eats a ton & therefrore craps a ton & a little 75 is not going to handle it for very long. If you are going to keep your 75 you should buy many filters & a ph meter because your ph is going to be a rollercoaster..

Actually my water is very hard and therefore stable. Once he is acclimated to the higher pH of about 7.8 it will be very stable. I am already in the habit if weekly 75-90% water changes with all my tanks, so the water quality will be very high.

No offense but 90% is a great but in a 75 it is a bit much... 75 gallons will always move more than 200+ it just means that EVERYTHING has an impact...water changes...food...poop... I am not trying to insult you, I have kept rays for 15+yrs & have many OLD rays. Just get ready to upgrade because you will have to. If the rays you have get 20inches across & 3ft long how easily are they going to be able to zip around in that tank. I have a 2400 gallon & I think it is tiny...

This is my first go with rays. I will do my best to help them thrive. If all goes well (which it seems like it will from what everyone has said) then I will be getting an pond for the basement for them. Hagen makes a couple nice ones that are heavy duty and stand on their own. These ponds have a great footprint for rays. If I don't do one of these I will go even larger. Rubbermaid has a nice 300 gallon stock tub.

From what I have read the reticulatus should not hit 20" across and three feet long. It seems liek they usually hit abotu 12" in diameter. Do you have larger ones? Do you have any links to good sites for actual sizes reached by different species? Someone recommended me one before and now I can't find it.
