I have a 300 Watt heater for my 55Gal tank... for a few days now, the heater LIGHT is off, when the water is actually cold...Any idea? Is it the heater?

I put my hands into the tank today and its cold, and the heater is off..so I put up the heater temp to 33 degrees...and the light was on for like 20 mins and went off, but the water is not warm.

Any advice?

Hey Jay...

The water always feels cool, even when I bump my temps up to 82. Do you have a thermometer you can use to check the actual temp?

could be defective. try setting up the heater in a smaller tank or bucket and see if it heats the water. if no, you may need to replace

yeah he hasnt been using a thermomter guys but with a tank that size and setting it to 33 degrees celcius, it should be on longer than 20 minutes.

True...but all of my heaters seem to cycle a bit instead of remaining on steadily. The water immediately around the heater warms up and the heater shuts down. The heated water disperses and the heater cycles again.

Jay...sort of off topic, but why so warm anyway? That's pretty hot for any fish I can think of.

^ I put it that warm for a few minutes to see if it starts goin off... but I know how much 25-30 degrees feel like, and it should NOT be cold as water straight outta my shower in this weather...

ill give it a measure with a thermo anyway, thanks.
