I have a 300 watt heater on my 55 . It was set to 78° but the heat wave raised the heat to 82°. I unpluged the heater and this morning put it in my hrp pond. I just checked the temp on my 55 and its still 82°. What should I do? Should I just leave it and the temp drop on its ownm

The heater surely will not lower the tank temperature so you might as well not put it back on your 55....Is the heater a thermostatic type?

lol if i know what that ment i could answer your question. im assuming your talking about when the heater turns on and off when it needs to be heated then yes it is.

Yeah, those types pretty much shut off automatically when the tank temperature rises above the heater setting. That way you won't have to remove it .

Is the tank covered fully or open top? If needed have a fan blow on the tank to lower temps. With my tank tops on temp goes up a couple degrees. With it open on top holds cooler better because air flows over water to cool down

i usually unplug this time of year cause it hot enough in my house for it to keep the tank at temp. im worried cause i dont want my new rtc to die cause the heat . i know they from the amazon butcan it take that heat

the tops are closed the back cover to the hood has a small gap but not big enough for good airflow.

This is another reason all of my tanks are in the basement.I would like to have a display on the main floor but I don't have central heat and cooling...The fans are a good idea and also you could ad a power head for extra oxygen in the tank.

last time this happened to my 55 i threw in a couple ice cubes and rechecked temp. that would probably be frowned upon over here tho... but i know what you mean. the hot weather does raise up my tank temps

I went to target(or walmart) and bought a small fan for 15 bucks that has a large clip to hold it up. When the heat get out of control....open one of my top glass peices and clip it on the side of the tank. Point it at the water and turn it on. Works wonders.

I like the idea of a power head. But i would point it so it agitates the surface heavily. Remember....the more surface movment....the more temp. Gets realeased.
