Just had another heater crap out on me. I have 125 gallon tank had a 400 watt no name eBay cheapo and a much smaller fluval (non submersible) 400 light is on but cold to the touch this is like my third heater this year. Looking for suggestions on something reliable.

I would remcommend not buying cheap heaters and stick with well known brands...

Personally i use ferplast branded heaters since over here they are known to be one if the top quaity submessible heaters...

As for Fluval heaters, i've used them once or twice in the past, but also found they crap out in no time so went and bought another Ferplast one...

I am relatively new to the hobby, so I have not had a long amount of time to put into these heaters, but I have an Aquatop heater on my 20, 45, and 75 gallon tanks. Now I have only had them for a handful of months so take it with a grain of salt, but they are on amazon at a great price, and they keep my tanks within 1-2 degrees very reliably.

Problem with most heaters nowadays is that the components (thermostats) are made in China. Guaranteed until lunchtime. I have had good luck with Rena heaters lately.

I thinks best practice says to buy multiple heaters totally to the desired watts and that have their own thermostats. Hook them up to a controller. The individual heaters should be slightly higher than the controller so that if the controller malfunction, the heaters would not stay on beyond its set temp.

I use titanium heaters, with a controller, so no redundancy. So I'm relying on the Ranco controller.

I mainly use Visi-Therm. However I purchased Aqueon 300 watt heaters because I got them for 5 dollars a piece due to bad or no packaging and I have to admit they have been definitely the most reliable. But I am still stuck on my Visi-Therm.

Ive had 2 or 3 yagers fail on me so im gonna try aqueon pro's and keep backups

I've been using aqueon 250s with the glass mirrored finish and they all got condensation in them immediately. They've been going for 8 months with it in there.... I just got eheim jäger 300s in case the fail I was hopping they might really be German made like my 2262 pump
