Is a 800watt titanium heater to big for 120 gal. tank?

it may be too tall, but it's not too many watts
i think the "rule" 5 watts/g but the higher it is the morerapidly it can heat water keeping it steadier and more reliably at temperature

Keep in mind that many members have found that using 2 heaters, totaling the wattage necessary for the tanks volume, is preferred over using a single heater. If one heater's thermostat locks 'ON', the temp rise would be gradual and easier to contend with in a problem situation. Also, if a heater should fail, the tank won't cool severely enough to cause illness to the tank's inhabitants.
