I currently have my heater in my sump; would it make a difference if I put it in the overflow, I really don't think it would be any different but does any1 think otherwise.

maybe if it fully submerge won't have a problem did you notice any changes in temp? or is it running most of the time compared when it was in the sump ?I have my heater in my overflow too cause it wont fit the sump any one else have some fact to share with us?

what's the wattage on your current heater and how large is the tank??

Currently I'm running a jager 250 watt for my 150 gal in my sump and works just fine. I would assume that it would work exactly the same in the overflow; unless someone can tell me why it wouldn't.. Thanks

Yes, you can Jeff... Especially with your tank.. Just cut a tiny piece of the plastic for the cord (same or smaller than the one that was cut on the other size) so you won't hear much noise, unless you like to have an ocean-front property :D:D It won't make much different in temperature on whether you put the heater in the sump or the overflow box... Just make sure your heater is fully submersed in the water when the pump is off... I like to suck all the water inside the overflow box out whenever I do water change, so it doesn't work for me to put the heater in the box... You have a giant sump.... Still not enough room for your heater? It could house two heaters :headbang2:headbang2

Thanks john... the 250 watt is in the sump right now; just looking for a cleaner look... that's all I can hide it better in the overflow...

Either the sump or the overflow box will be nice, and safe (fish can't break the heater) Any change in your signature?? Word on the street that you were going to get some marble...

only way i see it not working, is if ur pump or power ever went out, is ur overflow gonna completly dry out? or if ur pump ever quit working.

as long as its completly submerged at all times it should be fine and work like it would if it were in the sump.

but why move it if its already working if u dont mind me asking?

well the heater is long and it lays in a rather awkward angle and I want to add more bio media in the sump.. I could definatley work around the heater but it would be better hidden in the overflow I think..

It won't be a problem Jeff, since there is a durso stand pipe in your overflow box... Even the pump is off, there's still water in the box. Just unplug the pump and wait until the water stop draining, then you have an idea how deep you put the heater in the box so it's fully submersed... You're right about the heater has to be in an awkward angle.. Those Jager 250 watts heater is a bit longer than other 250 watts heater... BTW, use the suction cup to keep the heater to touch the bottom of tank... Just to be safe, since you don't want a crack tank (not likely will happen, but better safe than sorry) BTW, your tank bottom and back panels are tempered glass (not sure if I mentioned to you), so no drilling... The two holes inside the box was drilled by manufacturer before they tempered the glass... Tank was custom made
