i have seen alot that you can hide the heaters inside of the sump, i have a 300w heater and i have a 175 gallon. i kno i need another heater, but what size?

Is the tank currently set up using only the one heater? If so does it keep the tank stable at the desired temp?

I use 2W per gallon when keeping a tank 80*F in a room that is no cooler than upper/mid 60s... I've never had an issue keeping the tank temp stable...

When you have to large of a heater the heater turns on/off more frequently, thus wearing out the on/off mechanism, thus allowing the heater to get stuck on and killing the fish...

More is not always better...

go with another 300w. I use one in the tank, and one in the sump and have never had any issues.

I have allways stuck with the 2-3 watts per gallon. And i have no problems running my pred tanks at 85 in a 70 degree basemant.

I run right about 3W per gallon on my central system. Heaters are kept in the sump.

really depends on what temp is the house they are in, I keep my house at 78. So between having the lights/lids on my tank is usually stays at 82-81 douring the day and might get 79-80 over the course of the night. So I never use a heater, I have one just incase but Its never been used. If you keep a cooler home however or you live up north where it just cant be helped then yes I would deff want some wattage to keep the tank stable.
