I walked by the tank fed the fish, water felt warm and looked at the thermometer and I was like:WHOA:. My clown loaches are so pale one of them barely has stripes. My Polys look ok to me. I pulled the heater out so now I guess I gotta wait? Can't I do small waterchanges to bring the temp down a little quicker? Some ice cubes.

What if my fish bite it? They bite everything. I do have one.

Do you have a solid one, like the ones for coolers? If not, put it in a plastic bag to protect the pack. Some people are against ice cubes, but I've done it before with no affects on the fish, but I guess it depends on how sensitive the fish are.

My heater broke, I emailed aqueon and the sent me a new heater. mine was stuck at 80, so it wasn't so bad, but my 10 gallon tank hit 87 all the time and I have to use ice packs and a fan.

89 is not really that bad . Sometimes i get mine almost that high to treat ich . just do a small w/c and bring the temp down slowly or freeze a pop bottle full of water and put it in ... Good luck:D

Yeah the frozen pop bottles work great.:)

Slowly would be best. I have also run close to that for ich treatment. I would consider the small water change for just a couple of degrees, then let it cool on its own.

Just do a little water change and let it slowly get back to the temperature that you want. 89 degrees is bearable for most tropical fish so just let it cool down gradually. The Doctor.

All right new problem... LOL. I have 4 tanks in this room and all 4 have the same glass thermometers in them. I put all 4 in my 1 tank and all read differently. 80, 82, 87 ,89... WTF? I think it may be time to invest in some new technology... Maybe some digi's? I didn't realize how far off the glass ones could be.
