I built an indoor pond in my basement and find that the water temp after a week is only 65. I had hoped to move my pacu in here and maybe have a red tailed catfish as well (1000 gal). Is there a cheap way to raise the temp another few degrees so they are comfy? Thanks :grinno:

yeah, your gonna need some heaters. I have an indoor pond thats 350 gallons, and i run a 300 watt, and a 250 watt heater in there. My temp fluctuates from high 70's to low 80's. Room temperature stays mid 60's I'm guessing.

Id say you need like 3 200 watt heaters. Set all at 75, Plus if one dies you still have the others.

The only time I heated an indoor pond (in the garage) it was a small one, 400 gallons, I had a reptile style heating mat on the floor under the pond liner, I don't remember the brand but it had a metal probe to control the power. It was given to me used by a friend.

id go with stainless steal or titanium heaters in a pond with big fish like that, glass heaters in a pond with big fish is a deadly combo - id go w/ 300watt heaters probably 2-3, 1000 gal is a lot of water to heat up 10-15deg

has anyone tried the floating stock tank heaters? ( or the sinking kind) they are dirt cheap and last forever.
