I have a 20 gallon about 1-2 months old. I bought a kit with it, and at the time the price was really attractive, so I went with that kit. It came with a crappy heater, and the filter wasn't something to brag about, kept the water extra cloudy. I changed both of them, the filter is a Marineland Penguin, its meant for 30 gallon tanks so its doing lot of extra work, the water is crystal clear for the first time ever! The heater was also replaced, it failed in the on position, it brought the temp up about 90 degrees and I noticed about 2 hours, so everyone was good. I got a new heater which I like the first week or too. Heres the problem: It has a thermostat that is now set to 79/26 degrees. When the water is below 77 it brings it back up to 82, which I was fine with. However, now it is becoming too sloppy, when the temp goes to 77 it brings it up to 84, do I have to replace this, it was actually not the cheapest one I walked out the store with. (100 watts viaqua)

How long have you had it??? I would go back to the LFS where you got it and explain to them what it is doing and see if they will replace it.

Replace it under warranty, see if they will let you get the next model up or a different brand.

spend some bucks on a nice heater i think the ebo's are like 30 bucks are totaqlly reliable tank temp will kill fish faster than anything.... u got your water undercontrol now so get a nice heater before you meltdown
