the first fish i ever had was a baby oscar in a small 10 gallon tank i think my mom got me for my birthday when i was young, and forever after has fueled a love for keeping fish. the oscar grew and was moved into a 55g tank. long story shot i went on vacation had my brother watch the tank i come home and all my fish are dead as well as my poor oscar that i loved like no other fish i have ever had. turns out some how the heater got turned to the max and was left that way for about 2 weeks killing my poor oscar. ]=

hey at least you got yourself some oscar stew! jk jk, damn evil heaters!

The old non-submersible ones can. You could just turn the little screw on top of them until they made contact and it would stay on until it cooked all your fish. They would also corrode and stick on when they got old.

they can short-out too; had it happen on a Stealth heater . . . it ran so hot that the plastic casing cracked (!)

damn that sucks but hey thanks your mom for starting you oascar fasintation !

That happens alot with big oscars. I check my tank temp every morning after my two Os decided it was too cold for them one night........

had the same thing happen to me when i was gone on a trip..cooked my 35gl planted guppy tank
