I am starting a 290 gallon build in the next day or two and am wondering what people with this size of tank use to heat the water with.
Still unsure if i will do a sump or not or cannister filters????

So just curious as to what you all use on the bigger tanks?????
Thanks

are Ranco controllers pretty reliable?????

Yes. They are used for all sorts of industrial applications and have a proven track record. Lots of reef keepers use them to control their heaters. They are wayyyy more reliable than the internal thermostats you will find on any aquarium heater.

In regards to filtration, I would go with a sump.

I recently aquired a 10 gallon water heater from an RV that was crashed. I am going to try it on a 125 first then may plumb it inline on a cannister on the tank i build in spring. It says on the outside it uses 500 watts and it has some serious adjustability of temperature. Looks like i will be capable of either running it with a controller or using its internal thermostat to set temp.
