Heater question!!

i just wana ask, whats a good brand for heaters? are this ok made to run for a long time like up more than a month running without switching it off? i dont have any ideas about heaters, all i know is that they are tubes placed inside at rear end of the tank..

Your heater is too small for your tank. It has to switch off periodically when the temperature gets too hot. A good brand of heater is Visi-therm STEALTH. We don't get them in South Africa, but I hope you guys have them there. At least get a heater that's big enough for your tank dude. Here's some info on it:

If you can't find any in your area then just get a big enough one. Maybe someone on this site can recommend the right size to you. I am not too good with that type of stuff.

I was always told it should be ~5 watts/gallon. More in cold areas (like in front of a window), less if you keep your home warm. Remember to include the water in your sump/refugium/wet-dry, etc in calculating the gallons.

I like stealth heaters as well. They wont shatter and have a lifetime guarantee. Sometimes the dials aren't accurate though, but once you set it to a temp you want they will stay there.
 
Marineland Stealths are real good, I have a few, the only thing I can complain about is that they are not that accurate. I have a pair Rena top light heaters, and to my surprise they work great, maintain my temp in my tank at a nice and steady 77°. Aside from those two brands, I have also used Jager and Hydor (Hydor didn't work too well), I prefer to stick with what has worked best with me, so I would recommend Marineland, Rena, and Jager.
 
how much are this heater cost? the only brand i could recall thats found in our shops is Sera.. this is for my Flowerhorn tank (2.5ftx1.6ftx1.5ft), for him to develop his his head hump, a hotter temperature is good for him around 29-30'C.. its always been raining hir and the temps are low from 26-28'C

another question, if you decide to circulate the usage of your heater, would it be ok to just pull the plug and just leave the heater inside the tank?
