I'm setting up a 225 gallon tank + 55 gallon sump and I just wanted people's opinions on which heaters to use. Brand? Wattage size? How many total...more than likely 2 I'm thinking?

I also noticed that some folks keep all their heaters in their sump and none in the main tank. I just want to confirm that this can be done and will also keep the temperature consistent even in the main tank if placed in the sump only.

I have 2 300w in the sump on my 240. But when the lights are on the heaters never come on...I use a fan to drop the temp to 78...much cheaper...sorta :D

I do have 800w of metal halide lights on my Africans tho lol

I went super over board and tossed in 3 300wat heaters in my tank, the temp got so hot that I had to put a fan to keep things cool. once the tank was warm a single 300 in the sump did the job. With that being said its almost summer time so I will see how the winter goes.

I have 3 - 400 watt Hydor Theo's in my 300 acrylic keeping the water a toasty 87F. If you're tank is glass, realize that you will lose a little more heat through the glass than you would with an acrylic tank. I would probably use 4 of the same heater on a glass tank of the same size.

I have 3 x 300W Jager heaters on my 450G in the sump and My tank stays at a cosy 28 Degrees C.

If your going to keep Monster fish, best to put the heaters in the sump IMO

i use 2 -250watt stealths one in sump and one in tank and my tank stays at 80(180 gallon)

2 250w stealths in my tank and it's just fine and dandy. Only reason I have two is in case one breaks otherwise I would have gone with a single 300.
