Heater selection

So I have a 72x18x24 tank and has a 30 sump And have a pair of jäger that are 250watt each in sump and seems like they never shut off lol

Should I be buying two different heaters as they aren't working right possibly ? or are they not sufficient enough for the amount of water and how fast water goes through sump to keep water at proper temperature ?

You could try a thermostat, there's a bunch online for fairly cheap, they'll also give you peace of mind if one of the heaters fail, as it will shut off before it cooks anything. However if your problem is they are constantly on, maybe you should try insulating the tank, insulating the room the tank is in or try heating the room a little more, that definitely helps keep the tank warm. I wouldn't jump straight to buying new heaters as the 2 250's should be enough.

Well if they do shut off it when I'm never looking at them lmao but maybe a thermostat be a good idea to check and probe water to see were its at not like there any cold air that blows near tank and sump at all either water should just feel a little warmer for set at 85 I believe is all .....to the touch feels around 80-81 though

My reply is not so much about the heaters, but the temp.
If you are keeping discus and cardinals, Nandopsis haitiensus, or any of the Alcolapia species, temps in the mid 80s would seem appropriate. But for me, anything above 82'F is a columnaris outbreak waiting to happen, as 82'F and above, is what columnaris thrive on.
For most species of tropical fish, somewhere in the mid 70s is adequate.

Fish are arowana p bass rtc Florida gar...... They seem to like the warmer water a lot better then cooler temps I have found more active and etc

A 135g tank should be well heated with 500watts....but I have grown not so fond of Jager heaters. Yes they can be calibrated...yes they are decent heaters...but if you want better control of temps, spend more than you did on the Jagers, and get a 800watt titanium with a probe and a digital readout as well as a dial control....trust me, your heating issues will go away.

Exactly what I was thinking or at least a pair of Aqua via titanium 300 watt heaters ...... Also wondered if having a better heater would cut down on hydro usage as well so they aren't running all the time ? If that makes sense or would actually work lol I dunno
