So I have an ebo jager heater that is 300w. It is in a 105G tank with a 40G sump (the heater is in the sump). I have had this tank running for days now and it seems like this thing will not shut off. The light is always on, the temp is never really the same. It ranges from 70-75... I can't get it steady and the amber light is always on.

Any advice?

If its an old heater, the contact inside may be corroded, it is possible to take some heaters apart and clean the contact with some fine sand paper if you're handy. But if it were me, I'd have another heater handy just in case of a screw up.

What is the temp set at? Are you having trouble keeping the tank up to temp. Either the internal temp switch is defective or your heater is running constantly to try and keep the tank warm.

I have some ebo Jagger's like this too. The light went off after I put a cover on the top.

I have it set at 78. This is a brand new heater. Do you think its possibly not enough heater to heat 140g?

Typical suggestion is 3 watts per gallon. Depending on the ambient room temperature that you have, it might not be enough to support your tank.

unplug it for 20 min. ( yes sounds silly ), plug it back in. Put it as close to your intake as possible. Honestly its a little rare from my experience for ebo's to be defective from the get go. They are awesome heaters. Sucks if you got the short end on it

I had the same new heater that did that, send it back its broken, hope you didn't get the one I returned.

I use a ebo 200w on my 106 and it has no problem keeping my tank warm. ive actually started unplugging it during the day. I used the 300w and a 100w ebo on my 220 w/ 45gal sump and they kept the tank at 77 easily.

Ill add the reason i started unplugging the 200 was the tank was sitting at 82 with the heater set at now 74. I think it stays on longer than it should
