I feel so horrible because last night I keep smelling something burning but never could figure out what it was. Well when I got offline to go to bed I found that my heater somehow was sitting on top of my tank and had melted the black plastic rim and the heater had stopped working. The only other heater I have is a small one that is for and in my 5 gallon which houses a betta and a leopard danio (just one because the rest died).
So I moved my baby convict out of the 20 gallon in the 5 gallon with the others.
At first he was chasing the danio but never did anything and has been hiding in the cave all morning. Now I have to find away of getting the stuck heater off the top of the rim of my tank. I guess I need to go a heater and glass top.
Any ideas how to get the heater unstuck.
thanks

I would throw out the top and heater and not worry about it because it sounds like they are both ruined how did the heater get left on the top anyway?

It did not have a hood and the heater was placed in the conner and I guess oneof the dogs or something tugged the cord and it made the heater get pulled on top of the rim or something. The only ones in the room was me and the dogs so I know no one set it up there. As far as the black rim I will just leave it as it is and set a glass top or make a canopy and get a new heater. I called walmart and these things are so expensive so I may go to petsmart to get a price match from there website. There was one on there for sale it was only 10.00.
I can not get there till tommorw so hopefully the convict will be ok in the 5 gallon with the betta and danio. He is less than 1 inch so maybe he will not be to mean.

well i guess you have to buy a new one... next time make shure it can't happen again;)

You should be able to just break it off, or saw it off (I have used a dremel). Also, get a Visitherm Stealth by Marineland. They shut off when they are out of the water.

You should also use correct grammar, format, and sentence pauses (periods, commas, etc.) because I have no idea what the **** you said.

If you are talking to me I did use periods. you may want to look harder.

try yanking it with all your might, or use a saw and saw it off.

I agree, she should get a visi-therm. they are pricey, but the best heaters ever made.
