Im running two 300 watt ehime’s with a inkbird heater controller and couldn’t be happier. It does a good job keeping my 220 at the proper temp. I would highly recommend spending the extra money for a external heater controller and not rely on the heater to keep the proper temp.
I have used eheim and had good results but lately I have been switching over to the aqueon pro heaters and I really like them. unbreakable solid black design and easy to switch temperature control.
Like everyone, I only use Aqueon Pro and Eheim/Jager as they have been the most reliable. Aqueon Pros have a lifetime warranty that’s great but they are limited and can’t heat your tank too high. I keep plecos and discus so I stick with Eheims since they get much hotter and are also useful for qt tanks to heat treat parasites and such. Only thing I don’t like is they are huge...way longer then the Aqueon Pros.
But I never trust the cheap thermostat on any of these and have begun using external controllers after a bad experience of losing a huge group of plecos when the heater got stuck on the “on” position. If you have rare or expensive fish, get an external controller...
