When you mean you turned off all the power to the tank, do you mean you shut off everything or did you unplug everything? If you just shut off everything, electricity is still going to the units. However, if you un-plugged everything, than you shouldn't get shocked. There are some things that do still carry electricity in them even if unplugged but if you wait 5 minutes after unplugging all the electricity will be gone. Be careful and unplug everything, The Doctor.

thanks i figured it out it was a bad power pack and a faulty heater. so when i thought the power was off it was still on. luckily all fish are alive and well. it only took getting shocked 10 plus times to figure that out im sooooo SMART:D

Wow, be careful!

I have to ask...what kind of heater are you using?

Glad you're OK!

ive had a lot more trouble with powerheads putting electricity in the water. it drives me crazy, but doesnt seem to bother the fish

You are grounded, the fish aren't (unless they swim into the electrical source itself).

Pretty scarey stuff knowing that your peaceful, relaxing hobby could possibly kill you in a heartbeat if something goes wrong and you're not careful!

Glad everyone is OK!

thanks everyone i think its an aquaeon its only 2 months old to

it was pretty funny when i told my dad it was shocking me. he walked up to the tank and stuck his finger in it and nothing happens (he had shoes on with rubber on the bottom)so i stuck my finger in the tank(no shoes)of course it zapped me and i jumped like 3 feet up in the air like a kangaroo!
