My 56 gallon tank is thriving with new fry showing up all the time--until last night when I went in for the evening feeding. I saw all the adults at the top gasping for air and the smaller fish out in the open. I quickly realized the water temp was well over 90 degrees F! I unplugged and removed the heater, took the light and canopy off and started putting ice cubes (from filtered water). I saw that after about an hour the temp went down about a degree and kept going down until this morning where it is back to normal.
The bad news is I lost a favored adult electric blue Hap, but the good news is that's the only fish I lost. I could have lost them all. I will post the heater brand when I get home--but what a shocker that this could happen!
RIP, Happy!
