I just received my viaaqua 300wattt submersible heater..my question is, is it okay to put it in my sump sideways? On then instructions is says to ONLY put it in going up and down...but I can't do it that way in my sump.....

i use via aqua too and i have them laying flat in my sump no problem.

Thanks, it says also not to plug it into a powerstrip, extension cord, etc...it wants it plugged into a wall outlet..but I have none available...just a powerstrip...what's the reasoning behind this? Thanks

For correct and adequate grounding and wattage rating. Its fine in a strip!

they'll want you to plug it into a vertical outlet (on the wall) so the cord hangs down, and any condensation or wicking/siphoning effects will drip off the part of the cord hanging down under the power outlet. If you plug it into a power strip on the floor, water could wick into the outlet, spark, cause a fire, etc...

It's a liability thing for them.
