heaters breaking

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am lucky to never have this issue. While I have used some heaters (Ebo Jager) for upto 5 years strait, I do make it a point to replace my heaters every 2 or 3 years even if they are working. Maybe I am throwing money out the window but it gives me a piece of mind.

I am a firm believer in the Ebo Jager line I have owned many and they all worked fine.

I like the Visitherms as well, accurate and dependable.

Steaths seem to get alot of praise from people, but I will never own one because of the lack of an indicator light (big deal to me) and I hear they like to float.

The last 28 months I have used 2 Hydor Theo 400w and they have been good heaters, I have been sceptical to go with them but I got a steal like $15 each or something like that. However, with that said, keeping with my replacement schedule I am replacing those this week as I have already ordered 2 new heaters.

Will it electricute the fish those if the heaters go wrong?

Only if you are grounded while you touch the water.

Don't worry. It doesn't hurt that bad. LOL

Or you could save money and pick up a quality industrial temperature controller like the ranco. The heaters themselves usually don't break it's just their thermostats do. I have no problem with you being safe and replacing your heaters every few years but I would still run a controller because even a good heater brand might have some defects.

Good advise.

Stay safe everyone

This is the same "pet peeve" I have as well. I like to know when the heater is operating. That way, even if the thermostat goes haywire, I'll know the heater is constantly on.

I do like my stealth, but the lack of light is annoying. The click of the heater going off and on is really loud, though, I wonder if that's an intentional substitute?
