What's every ones experience with heaters in an acrylic sump? I'm setting up a 180 and will have around 600watts in the sump and I'm worried it will crack or warp or worse? Is there any way to avoid this and still put it in the sump? Pharaoh or Chomps don't let me down, chime in!!
:confused::confused::confused::confused:

I have heaters in my acrylic sump. Never had an issue.

If you are really worried about it, just set it on top of something that won't melt like a piece of slate.

Thanks Pharaoh, the man has spoken and I'm not woried know.

Same here, no problems.

Normal acrylic begins to get soft at 210-220f and won't start melting till 300-330f. With water constantly cooling it your chances of melting your sump are quite slim.

I've got a 500w heater in my sump. No issues. Although I will say I didn't just lay it against the side or bottom. I used the suction cups that came with it. I've had my hand in there near it when it was on and never felt like it was baking anything. On a side note, don't do like I did and forget to shut it off and try to grab it.....:wall:

I ran 1500w in my sump, no issues
