Hey Y'all,

I have a 100g tank with a sump that I'm about to fill, cycle etc. I want to place my heaters in the sump to keep things tidy. I just want to know, from those whose setup is similar, is there much heat loss from the sump to the tank. To me, it seems as if the water in the sump isn't in contact with the heater long enough- or does it just take a loooong time to heat?

Setup is:
100g w/ 2 corner overflows
Pro Clear 175 sump
Rio 2500(?) pump
2x 250W Marineland Stealth heaters

Have people had to set their heaters higher than usual to attain a given temp, with the heaters in the sump? (i.e. set the heaters to 84* F to achieve 82* in the tank- assuming accurate calibration on the heaters.)

Thanks.

You should notice very little difference whether it be in the tank or in the sump.As for what temp to set it at will depend on your heater.I never go by the temp/thermostat on the heater.I always have a separate thermometer in the system and I adjust my heaters to that.I trust a good thermometer for accuracy before I do a heater or thermostat.I still check every now and then with a second thermometer as a fail safe.

Thanks.

yeah dont worry about it.. as long as you have several turnovers an hour the tank and the sump should have the same water..
