Milky Way Galaxy,
Hey guys my Bala pond is Doing pretty good but after water changes it's pretty cold is it best to have the heaters in the sump, waterfall or just keep it in the pond. It takes awhile for it to heat up back. Am using 2 300WATT heaters. My other 2 am currently using for my 1,800Gallon it's getting chilly in the mourning now. So basically where can I put the heaters to make it heat faster, and more effective thanks guys

only way to make it heat faster it have more wattage. what size tank is this? the general rule is you need 3-4 watts per gallon effectively raise the temps 9 degrees above room temperature. this is simple physics. on my 400g i had 1500w of heating and still had trouble getting it to stay 80 degrees in the winter.

why not use warm water for water changes?

It's 500gallons I keep it up to 74-75F it's a pond i have to use garden And I've checked my parameters on my garden water nothing is wrong with it

Okay thanks am used to have 4 300WATTS I think ill just take them out of the 1,800g I'll put two in the sump one in the waterfall and one in the pond. I think that will keep it steady alot more

One thing I have done is hook up a hose (make sure its a good one) to the hot water that hooks up to the washing machine, and combine the hot and cold water. I have only done this when I'm filling something that doesn't have fish in it. However, you might be able to get away with slowly adding a some hot water to the sump and just watch the temp really carefully. Just keep the hot water from directly pouring over any bio media.

You just need to add one of these to the valve where the hot water comes out.

Edit, if you do decide to do this:
1)turn the hot water valve to off first!!
2) Use tephlon tape
3) turn hot water back on slowly to watch for drips
4) make sure you keep the valve to the washer open or mom's gonna be pissed!

ok but why wouldnt i turn off the washer valve ? i dont want the water to go in the washer if there are not clothes in there i would prob do this when no clothes are in there. and this might work if i can convince them!!

Let's do a little reverse engineering

http://www.howstuffworks.com/how-to-repair-a-washing-machine.htm

Now that we have learned how to repair a washing machine we can answer your question. The valve to the washing machine stays open, and the solenoid inside the washing machine controls the water flow when needed during the cycles. Hooking up a splitter to the water line would be nothing short of unscrewing the hose, putting on the splitter, and rescrewing the hose back in. The two valves are controlled by the black switches that you turn in the on and off position.

In other words, do it! You won't make anyone mad, and it will be a hell of a lot cheaper to fill your pond once a week with warm water rather than having your heaters working double time trying to compete with the newly added cold water. :headbang2
