Hi there MFKer's!!! I have just received my new tank not too long ago, and I am having a little trouble as of going on about which product to choose. The tank dimension is a 71" L x 18" W x 20" H. The tank will be housing a single freshwater fish in case anyone wonder what kind of set up am I doing.
As of right now, I am looking at Eheim Jager heaters. Now since the tank is a 110 gal(as the tank calculator online says), I'm thinking of either putting in a single 300W Jager or two 200W Jager. Been doing a lot of search on it, and most recommend to go forward with two 200W Jager heaters. What do you guys rate these Eheim Jager heater in terms of accuracy, longevity, and heating ability. Also red somewhere that there are heater guards that protects glass heaters from breaking, which most said to use Tronic Heater Guard. I would like to know more about these heaters guard if anyone has use them before.
For powerheads, I'm looking at Maxi-Jet 1200 at the moment. I would like to use Aquaclear powerheads as I've heard they are a work horse that delivers a good amount of flow. But one cons thing about it is that it isn't really adaptable to any sponge filter or pre sponge filter as some likes to call it. It comes with a "quick filter" which is like some sort of floss woven material, and it isn't really a reusable product like sponge filter. Unless there's a sponge filter that can fit into that quick filter casing that is made for the quick filter floss like material(and yes I am going to put a pre sponge filtration on the powerhead - it is a must need for my liking).
I am also going to be modify it by sticking the air lining tube into the air ventilation. And that is where the air tube that comes with the powerhead is suppose to go, will the air lining tube for the air pump fit there properly?

Any advice and suggestion to all my questions will highly be appreciated. Thanks...;)

I love the eheim jager, definitely one of the best heaters you can find on the market (if not the best). I don't use Tronic Heater Guard. I did a DIY heater guard with eggcrates, zip ties and suction cups. Planning on adding some stuff like fake plants to camouflage the guard as well as the heater. As for powerheads, I got those wavemakers you normally find in those marine tanks (cheap and good).

300 watt will be fine you only need around 2 watts per gallon
