i have a 125gallon tank with a 55 wet/dry sump. the water level in the 55gallon sump only gets up to a little under half way up the tank. i have 1-200watt submersible and 2-150watt submersible heaters actually down in the 55gallon sump. all three heaters are spread out inside the 55gallon so they are not right next to each other. all 3 heaters are turned all the way up and the temp only gets up to 77-78 degrees. my house thermostat is set to 71degrees and is comfortable inside in shorts and a t-shirt. my question is would i be better off to keep consistent heating around 80-82degrees, if i put the three heaters in the 125gallon tank?
and why is my tank not getting heated up. i would think that 500watts of heaters would be ample.....i only have a 200watt on my 75gallon and it keeps it at 81-82 always. help me out people
thanks in advance
jason

heres what you do. take your heaters you have now and through them out. go and by 2 250w ehiem jager heaters.

bigalsonline.com has them on sale now.

no just wondering if it would heat more consistently if i moved the three heaters in the sump up to the main 125gallon tank.

I would have all heaters in the main tank. :)

I would look into getting new heaters. Our house is kept a 66 degrees(I'm a cheap skate) and my 180g with out sump is heated to 80 degrees with a single 250w stealth heater. The 150g with a wet/dry sump is kept at 80 degrees but does require two of the 250w stealths.

I keep 2 250w stealths in my 220 and have no problems.... also have a 250watt jager in my m. wich holds perfect 80 degrees.... I would take the 2 150w and put them in the tank and keep the 200 in the sump... but switching to better heaters would be a good idea...

Are all the heaters actually working?

One or 2 could have faulty elements and not actually be doing anything.

Being in the sump should work fine as there is good water flow over the heaters.

With the room that warm 500watts should be plenty of heat if it's all working.

I 2nd the suggestion of just getting a big Jager, putting that in the sump and seeing what happens. Then test the other heaters and throw out the ones that dont work ;)

Cheers

i only use one hydro 300watt heater in the sump of my 125g and it stays right at 79 degrees (room temp is usually 65). i don't like having it in the tank as my fish beat the crap outta em. plus it looks better in the sump. gl

yeah i like the look of having it in my sump so you cant see them. i checked all three of them last night and they all were working(felt hot to the touch) but i think im going to try and take the two 150 watt heaters and put them in the main tank, and leave the one 200watt in the sump. im just going to have to go get a bigger and nicer heater soon. just to add that all three of these heaters are less than 2months old.
