Sooo today I drained my 55gal to get the treatment out for one fish and get ready to treat another fish for something else. Well I un-plugged 2 plugs thinking it was my heater and pump... oh man was I wrong. So I get the tank drained pretty low and here this sizzle noise. A few second and I realized the noise was a heater. I went to try to unplug it and grabed it to pull it out of the tank and the wire slipped and the heater went into the tank. I got so incredibly lucky that I had the wire and ripped it out b/c the second it hit the water if sparked and cracked then blew up a bunch of smoke but It didnt shock the tank/water or me, thank gosh. I felt so stupid... next time I will make sure I just unplug everything. The other plug I pulled was to my lights. :screwy:

So what you can gain.. Always remeber to just unplug it all!!

wow, crazy, glad ur ok, i have had some close calls as well,. the last one i had, i was doing water change and my bigg pbass decided to splash me, it hit the light witch had been all day and it blew up and scared him more then he splashed more, and it was sparken and sizzelen. so always make sure lights of and cooled down.

I've done that myself, but mine blew into a bunch of peices and i had to pick glass out of the tank. That's why i like my new heaters, when the water level gets too low they shut off. So now i don't have to worry about that.

been there done that learned to use power strips that have a switch to turn all power to the tank off
