between here and there
ok i have a qustion .....im going to put my 250 gal back togeather ...its in peices since the silicone broke and flooded my house ..well the wife says and i qoute " theres no way in hell thats coming back in the house" so its going to go in the garage.. i live on the west coast of florida just north of tampa... it gets hot here but im really not worried about the heat for the fish ,just the cold..i need good heater that i set to a certant tempature and it wont get any colder than what i set it at on cold nights .. i just need some reccomendations on good brands that i can trust not to go haywire and kill everything ... thanks for your help and if you can send a link to where i can read about it and purchase too that would be great....

Hydor Theo FTW. i have a 400 watt hydor theo in my 100. keeps the tank at a constant temp of 83 Fahrenheit

Dangerous going with 4 watts per gallon like that. If that heater sticks on you be looking a boiled fish soup. Better to go with multiple smaller heater which can't overheat the tank if one sticks on.

I highly suggest you insulate the tank as much as possible...

Insulating the tank will allow you to use a smaller heater to maintain your tank's temp through the coldest part of winter with putting it at the least risk (risk of heater being stuck on) during the spring or fall...

In the months where the heater is not at all used, I suggest unplugging it to remove all risk during those months...

I tried out Visi Therm Stealth heaters when they first came out and they quickly won my dedication... I have used them exclusively for 5+ years bvery happily... I have a few that have been in use that whole time (and still are)...

IMO the best heater you can get is that titanium one made for reptiles. Errr, of course right now I can't think of what it is called. It has a seperate heating element and thermo controller.

thanks a bunch for the suggestions i think im gonna go with a 3 smaller ones and im going to build a wood frame around the tank for bracing an ill space the sides and back about 4" so i can throw some r19 insulation against the glass to keep it warm in the winter....next qustion..should i make the insulation removable for the summer do you think ?
